Bron Afon does not ban animals
The article I wrote on one of our community housing officers being bitten by a dog was edited and then published containing some errors (Inside Housing, 4 September).
It stated that our new tenancy agreement has clauses about ‘not keeping animals’. This is incorrect. Our new agreement has clauses about animals but it does not say they are banned.
We wanted to highlight that the law is wrong as the police were unable to have this dog put down in this case as the attack took place in the tenant’s home and the dog was not classed as ‘dangerous’ in law.
Staff had been to this home many times and never felt the dog was a danger. If they had they would have asked the tenant to lock away her dog before every visit.
The headline ‘Clauses banning dogs must be enforced or they become useless’ also gave the impression that Bron Afon has a policy of banning dogs. This is not true. We are currently putting together our animal policy with a group of tenants and this will look at how we can sensibly approach the issue of animals.
