ALMO starts work on first new homes
Work has started on the first affordable council homes in Rochdale for 20 years.
Tenants from arm’s-length management organisation Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Rochdale council leader councillor Alan Taylor held a ceremony to celebrate the start of the £2.1 million scheme.
Thanks to a £1.2 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency, 22 new properties will be built by RBH’s charitable subsidiary Brighter Horizons. The 18 bungalows and four family houses will house some of the former residents along with tenants from a nearby regeneration area and others in housing need.
Deborah McLaughlin, regional director for the HCA North-West, said: ‘I’m please we have been able to work so closely with Brighter Horizons and support such an important scheme for Rochdale residents.
‘It is exactly through this kind of investment and partnership working that we will deliver such vitally needed new homes for local communities.’
Councillor Alan Taylor said: ‘Building affordable homes and creating and supporting jobs are key priorities for the council, this and future RBH schemes will deliver much-needed homes and support local employment.’
