Drug dealer evicted from Glasgow home

A housing association in Glasgow has evicted a drug dealer from one of its properties.

Parkhead Housing Association got a warrant to eject convicted heroin dealer Alan Holmes, 37, from the flat in Powfoot Street.

Mr Holmes, who also uses the first name Arthur, has previous convictions for other drug offences and for carrying an offensive weapon.

The housing association began legal moves against him after he was sentenced to four months in prison for selling heroin from the flat. The association said Mr Holmes’ activities made life hell for other residents. Addicts looking to buy drugs broke into the building and smashed windows of neighbouring homes while throwing stones to get the dealer’s attention.

The flat was sealed with a steel door to prevent Mr Holmes returning.

The housing association worked with Glasgow Community and Safety Services and Strathclyde Police to get Mr Holmes evicted.

James Strang, chief executive of Parkhead Housing Association, said: ‘Drug dealers are a scourge on society – profiting from other people’s misery and making life hell for law abiding residents. No one should have to tolerate a stream of undesirables traipsing through their close or be afraid to let their children out to play because addicts are hanging around on the stairs.

‘This eviction is part of our campaign to root out anti-social behaviour. We will not tolerate it and intend to do our part to protect the local community.’
