NI executive finds £6m for delayed maintenance
Thousands of homes across Northern Ireland will receive delayed maintenance works to their homes after a £6 million funding boost.
Housing minister Margaret Ritchie announced the additional investment, and said there could be more money to come.
The funding will secure jobs for maintenance contractors Egan, who carry out improvement works on behalf of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
In August Inside Housing reported the executive had missed its decent homes targets for maintenance and improvement works following a funding shortfall.
Ms Ritchie said: ‘The extra money will be spent on much-needed kitchen replacements and new heating systems, and will mean that thousands of people, who earlier in the year were not going to get this work done, will now have their homes improved.
‘And the good news is that I hope to be able to find even more money towards the end of the financial year. This will mean that the Egan contractors will have been allocated an additional £20 million in the course of the year on top of their initial budget of £16 million.’
