Housing minister takes on regeneration
Regeneration has been added to the duties of the Welsh minister responsible for housing, as part of a reshuffle.
Jocelyn Davies becomes deputy minister for housing and regeneration in a shake up announced by first minister Carwyn Jones, who took over from Rhodri Morgan last week.
Keith Edwards, director of the Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru said: ‘CIH Cymru is delighted that the assembly now has a unified ministry on housing and regeneration, we see it as a hugely positive step to delivering real outcomes for some of our most deprived communities in Wales.
‘CIH Cymru has been making the case for housing-led regeneration for a number of years.’
Nick Bennett, chief executive of housing association umbrella body Community Housing Cymru, said: ‘Community Housing Cymru warmly welcomes the integration of housing and regeneration.
‘The stock transfer process has demonstrated the importance of housing to regeneration.
‘We look forward to working with the deputy minister in her new role and in ensuring that housing investment has the maximum effect on tackling fuel poverty and creating jobs and training opportunities across communities.’
