Gallery: Aylesbury clears the final hurdle
As the £2.4 billion regeneration of the Aylesbury estate in south London gets the final go ahead, the latest images show how it could look. The pictures combine computer-generated imagery with photographs of existing areas to give an impression of different elements of the scheme.
Southwark council members approved the area action plan for the Aylesbury estate at a full assembly meeting last week. The assembly also agreed to the publication of an area action plan for Canada Water, which will now be submitted to the secretary of state.
The regeneration of the 28.5 hectare Aylesbury estate, which is home to 7,500 people, will include the construction of mixed tenure homes, a new school, communal gardens, and health and community centres.
Paul Noblet, executive member for regeneration, said: ‘The Aylesbury is a massive 15 to 20 year project, and the first phase is already under construction. It will revolutionise the way that Aylesbury residents live, work, learn and enjoy their lives.’
