Auction income jumps £20m

The amount of social housing stock sold at auction rose dramatically last month, according to the latest monthly figures from Essential Information Group.

EIG - which collates data from all auctions across the UK - revealed that 121 homes were sold for a total of £24.8 million in February, compared with the £2.6 million raised the previous month.

Southwark Council was the local authority to offload the most housing stock at auction, selling 29 of the 32 properties made available for
£4 million.

Peabody was the biggest named housing association seller, selling 15 of the 16 properties it made available for a total of £3.5 million, after a somewhat quiet period in January this year.
