Mears racks up £500m of contract wins
Mears has reported strong trading in the first quarter with its highest ever number of new social housing contracts.
The repairs and maintenance provider has been awarded more than £500 million of new contracts in social housing in 2010, the company said in an interim management statement covering the period from 1 January to 11 May.
Among the largest successful bids were a 10-year, £200 million contract to upgrade Brighton & Hove Council’s housing stock and a £30 million contract with Crawley Council to provide responsive repairs.
The company, which also provides domiciliary care services, said it had a strong balance sheet and a healthy bid pipeline.
Bob Holt, chair of Mears, said: ‘Mears social housing bid pipeline for contract tenders remains in excess of £3 billion and we continue to place great emphasis on winning good quality contracts that can provide clear and sustainable margins.
‘There are tremendous opportunities with existing customers to unlock significant additional revenue.’
