Staff cuts at ALMO that axed entire board in chief exec row
An arm’s-length management organisation which saw its entire board axed last month is planning to make up to 32 members of its staff redundant.
Six Town Housing, which manages 8,000 homes on behalf of Bury Council, is formally consulting with its workforce over redundancies.
The council refused to identify where the redundancies would be made, or when the consultation process would conclude. It also refused to give any further comment.
Last month, the council removed the board at Six Town Housing after a row about the ALMO’s chief executive. The board had suspended Sharon McCambridge following allegations about her conduct from two members of staff. The council decided to remove the board as it did not believe the allegations were substantial enough to merit suspension. Six Town Housing declined to comment.
Mark Sanders, Bury Council’s chief executive also cited concerns about governance for removing the board. But a former board member told Inside Housing that none of these concerns had been passed on to the board until the council announced it was removing the members.
An independent investigation into Ms McCambridge’s conduct concluded at the end of May and the chief executive has returned to work, although the contents of the report have not yet been made public.
An interim board, chaired by Mike Kelly, the council’s deputy chief executive, will serve until the annual general meeting in November.
