Former minister to chair Olympics firm

Former housing minister Nick Raynsford is to chair the company that will run the affordable homes at the athlete’s village being built for the 2012 Olympics.

Mr Raynsford, who is currently MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, will take on the role at Triathlon Homes. The joint venture between East Thames Group, First Base and Southern Housing Group will own and manage 1,379 affordable homes at the 2,800 unit athlete’s village.

His post will involve working with the management team at Triathlon on the wider regeneration of the area. He has been involved in promoting the regeneration of Greenwich and Woolwich through his work as an MP.

Tom Dacey, director of Triathlon Homes, said: ‘Nick’s extensive experience in housing and construction issues, nationally and in key areas of London, is widely respected across the private and public sectors.

‘As chairman he will help guide the team in leaving a lasting legacy in affordable housing for Stratford and the wider community after the Olympic Games.

‘He has been pivotal in delivering for east London residents in the past so we are delighted that he will be able to share his knowledge to further help Triathlon Homes support their interests.’

Mr Raynsford said: ‘Triathlon Homes will bring real social and economic benefits to Stratford and east London.  I am very excited to be joining such an important project at this key time.’

Mr Raynsford joined the government in 1997, and was responsible for housing, planning and construction, as well as being minister for London.

Hmmm. Seeing as my last posting here seems to have been 'disappeared'. Did I hit a nerve IH?

Maybe I should stick to quoting other sources:

On 28 March 2010, The Sunday Times reported that Mr Raynsford earns £9000 per month from jobs in industries connected to his former ministerial career.

    Champagne Socialism at its best!

Was IH told how much he being paid for this new post?

I think we should be told. I assume it will be declared to Parliment.
