Brighter by design
Architect Renzo Piano is known for his controversial designs, including the Pompidou Centre in Paris, but one of his latest projects is slightly more restrained.

Central St.Giles, a mixed-use contemporary regeneration development, still stands out, but doesn’t make as bold a statement as the Parisian landmark.
The development has two residential blocks – one private and one affordable – as well as 37,600 square metres of commercial office space, and 2,250 square metres of retail space.
The 53 affordable homes have been developed by Circle 33 Housing Trust, Camden council, Legal and General, Stanhope, and Bovis Lease Lend
The affordable units will be a mixture of social and intermediate rent, and shared ownership. Legal and General, which owns the site, chose Circle 33 to develop the units, working closely with PRP Architects.

The Homes and Communities Agency put £5.35 million into the scheme. Camden will work with Circle 33 to provide a range of community activities and services for residents.
Carol Carter, group regional operations director at Circle 33 parent Circle Anglia, said: ‘We’re thrilled to work in partnership with Camden council and Legal and General to provide good quality affordable homes for the local community.’
Nick Taylor, head of area for north London at the HCA, said: ‘What makes this development stand out is that it’s about more than just building houses; it’s also about creating communities.
‘The local community has been placed at the heart of Circle Anglia’s development for which they should be commended.’
