Housing Heroes shortlist unveiled

The shortlisted entrants for awards that recognise the unsung ‘heroes’ of the housing sector have been announced.

The Housing Heroes awards, which are jointly run by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing, were set up last year to acknowledge the work of front-line housing practitioners.

For the 2010 awards there are 14 trophies up for grabs, recognising everyone from the best HR, maintenance and finance/procurement team to the inspirational board member and tenant.

The full shortlist is below, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on 14 May.

For more information on Housing Heroes see our awards page.

Kass - Genius, pure unadulterated genius.

Only you would have the logic that because: sports personality of the year award, contains the word "award", that these are comparable, at all related or could be awarded in the same way. There is a slim line between insanity and genius, i think you are teetering on the edge."

so according to you tenants should have no say at all in these awards? And because I suggested they should I've got to be mad?
If it's true that you work for an almo with a tenants board I am a bit surprised that they are employing have someone with your views and attitude.

... I am staggering proud of all my HA do. There is more work to be done, there always will be, but that doesn't stop me being proud."

You can be proud as much as you like of your HA employer. But that does not mean as you seem to imply that either your or them are any good at what you do. What you and some others are not getting is that only the residents can say if you are any good.

  • Kass - fair enough - but a great STATUS survey result tells me we are getting a lot of stuff right. So tenants HAVE told us we're doing a good job. We have to focus on the less satisfied and keeping it up in overall services and repairs and maintenance. Thanks for reminding me.

Do you have a link or name this great STATUS survey you quote saying you are doing so well so I, and others, can read it?

  • Kass:
"so according to you tenants should have no say at all in these awards? And because I suggested they should I've got to be mad?"

At no point did I make either of those points. You stated "even for the sports personality of the year award it is the audience to vote nowadays?"

Please explain to me how any kind of ballot of all social tenants would work?
Without going into further detail, the main stumbling block is; who would pay for said ballot? At the end of the day the cost will be passed onto tenants, most of whom will have no interest in these awards, if they are even aware they exist. You argue that tenants should be able to vote for these awards but would be the first to protest if the cost was passed onto you as a rent rise.
    Hypocrisy of the highest order.
Many of your arguments seem fine when you first state them, but when you apply any kind of analysis about the practical implications, they are obviously untenable.
Most people on this forum are open to new ideas, but when these ideas are show not to be practical, you must concede this point, rather than reply with insults or unrelated arguments.
Your position as a tenant makes you a valuable contributor but with the attitude you currently display no-one will take you seriously.

  • Kass - erm- why on earth would I link to something that you would pull every tiny little negative out to humiliate me?!! We know what we need to work on without you posting it as a means to batter another social housing provider. Besides which - all our tenants have a copy. THEY are the ones who matter.

And as the point goes - tenants say they feel we do a good jobs. So I am proud and happy. Nothing you can say, despite your desperate attempts, will change that.

You still have not got it. You can be as proud and happy as you want... Have a few parties too while you are at it and drink that special bottle oschampagne to celebrate!

I just wanted to know what your tenants think. And I wanted to know it from and independent source and not from you.
Your HA might be doing something very good, which I think should be shared with everybody else in the sector so that others might learn and improve from it, and your HA might be something terribly bad, which also should be known so that suggestions can be made how can you rectify it and get it right.
But it looks like in your case (and some others) we have to wait for the Berlin wall to come down before any possibility of this ever happening.

  • Kass - a "news" forum is in no means the appropriate place to share that information. There are forums which ARE appropriate and in which we participate as a transparent organisation sharing knowledge and learning from others.
What you seem unwilling to accept is that I am NOT my companies mouth piece when I come on here. I am speaking personal opinion and wishing to understand others perceptions.

Now I'm going to bow out as this is pointless.

I am not interested whether you speak for yourself or your company.
All I want is to read copy of your HA HIGH STATUS survey you mentioned. Whether is it on a website or any other forum or if I need to phone/fax/emal anyone to get it I do not mind. If a copy of this high status survey has been made available to ALL your residents then it is very likely that it is on your HA website.
So where/how can I get a copy of it?

  • Kass, you seem a little touchy. Has your toilet still not been fixed? I had a look at the L&Q website for you and it states:

'Residents ask us what decorating and small DIY jobs they are able to do around their home under their tenancy regulations. The answer is, there is not much you're not able to do...'

So it looks like you can fix the toilet yourself. Good news eh!

On this evidence I would not be surprised if L&Q are up for many Housing Heroes awards next year. (Back on topic! Do you see?)
