Inquest to be held into death of boy who fell from window
An inquest into the death of a teenage boy who fell from a window in a tower block will take place in October.
Jovanni Peddie, 14, fell on Wednesday 20 April after opening a window to look out of the Missenden Block flat he called home on the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth, south-east London.
His body was spotted by his younger brother on a second floor balcony.
A Southwark Police spokesman said: ‘There is no criminal investigation, however the matter will be going to Coroners court on the 25 October 2011, and police are conducting an investigation to assist the coroner.’
The inquest will be at Southwark Coroner’s Court.
Ian Wingfield, cabinet member for housing at Southwark Council, said: ‘This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with the bereaved family. As a council we can reassure residents that the recent incident at Missenden on Aylesbury Estate will be thoroughly investigated by both the police and the council.
‘The safety of residents is the highest priority for the council and this investigation will ensure that we can continue to offer them the best, and clearest, advice on safety at home.’
