Mortgage arrears falling
Mortgage arrears fell in the first three months of this year, according to data published yesterday (Wednesday) by the Financial Services Authority.
The figures show there were 35,600 new arrears in the United Kingdom, a drop of eight per cent compared to the last quarter of 2010.
The total number of accounts in arrears at end of March stood at 337,000, down two per cent on last quarter and seven per cent on the figure for the same period last year.
The total value of outstanding loans fell by £600 million to £1,212 billion.
