WELFARE HOUSING

Politicans and indeed, some IH posters , appear to be saying that social housing tenants should only have a tenancy if their income is below a certain level.

This would, in effect, create ghettoes and welfare housing estates/neighbourhoods?

What would become of those current social housing tenants whose incomes are above that level (whatever it would be)?

I assume the question is rhetorical but in case it isnt:

1. They would be and are being labelled as parasites, as;

2. After all, it is their fault that we have massive waiting lists and has absolutely b*gger all to do with lack of supply of affordable housing

Look to the wonderful examples around the world where this policy has been tried, for instance Warsaw, where the authorities ended up having to kill all the inhabitants whilst the Allies gave them time to do so.

Alternatively, there is always the American cities examples, but the difference is marginal.

    Those with lifetime (periodic) tenacies swapping with another person with the same will still swap using a "Deed of Assignment" and take over eachother's tenancies, not begin new tenancies.  BUT, if fixed-term or "affordable rent" is involved on either side, new tenancies are started. I have studied the Localism Bill and this is what it says.

    I have recently joined twitter. I was initially reluctant but my son was very enthusiastic saying it was better than Facebook because it was easier to use, wasn't restricted to your " friends" and the limit on characters keeps comments short and to the point. For me twitting is a way to promote my articles and books to let others who share my interests know what is influencing me and to pick up on what others in my areas of interest are talking about.     Where there's any question about the performance of a product, I would suggest that it's important to get the products in question back to the manufacturer or importer, for them to inspect them and advise you as to the cause of the damage.     In short the powers are devolved by government to the Mayor and, in London, the GLA will take on the role previously undertaken by the Homes and Communities Agency.

    Primarily social housing exists to address an obvious market failure. However as social housing becomes more and more market-led the sector is increasing starting to emulate the problem it sought to address - quite ironic I suppose.

    Depends if there is a gas fire or boiler in any of the rooms mentioned. If so, it cannot be deemed suitable for use as a bedroom.

    I don't think we know the whole story! If the repair required is a landlord's responsibility from law or tenancy, then landlord has to repair. S.11 Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 is the obvious starting point.
