What is the difference between a Secure and Assured Tenancy (4)

Ask the Experts > Ask the Experts

I live in social housing - the house was council up until 2003, it is now a Housing Trust. I had a secure tenancy (I've lived in the house since 1982) now I have an Assured tenancy. What is the difference and do I retain all my rights?

Regardless of jurisdiction, the law on sub-letting is fairly similar in a common law system.

I think that the lesson that investment in housing development stimulates the real economy is one that really needs to be applied to the current situation - and urgently.

ALMOs are managing agents, not the landlord. Tenants of ALMOs did not lose their secure tenancy and so would not need their secure tenancy returned.

I've look at these and I explain we small Housing Association but finding its very difficult to encourage the all and not the few and at the same time our Housing Assoication is guilt of this too...

Anon @ 2-58pm - Our council retained a small number of commercial properties  (shops) with domestic properties above  them as part of the transfer deal.

Anonymous, it looks like your Housing Association is just brushing you off with that answer.  Ask them again for a copy of the terms or your original terms of tenancy, just to make sure they will not deny you asking them (some Housing Association like to waste your time and their time by having you asking them the same thing over and over again) and to remind them that you are still waiting for a proper satisfactory answer.

P.S. - if its escaped your notice the vast majority of councils are Tory run, even after their losses in May, so its hardly suprising that the majority of those paying negative subsidy are Tory run councils - but then according to you there is no negative subsidy so the point must be mute Anon, or are you now arguing against yourself.
