Comment on: Dromey reveals development detail
Happy days are here again !
"The companies would be stand - alone businesses, largely controlled by councils ", and manned , so it rumoured, by Direct Labour Organisations (DLOs).
Of moore interest perhaps, is the question --who will be housed in this swathe of new subsidised houusing ?
Hard working families perhaps ...maybe not.
Interested parties in Poland,Romania, Bulgaria and Lithuania are watching this very closely.
This is one of many cases of councils withholding funding for support related housing.
Where providers have appealed ,the majority have been successful; and a recent ruling by the Upper Chamber of the tribunal Service has further strengthened this.
Many anecdotal instances exist of behaviour such as this from councils across the country ----particularly from councils with a `no compulsary redundancies policy`.
Is a case of sacrifice hostels to save jobs I wonder.
Hostels sacrificed to save jobs ? ?
In the East Midlands area many tenants who are claiming LHA are already paying £5/£6 per week shortfall on their rent due .This is only to be expected , as LHA rates historically lag behind market rents.
A rise in rents of 6% is currently forecast for the East Midlands Broad Market Rental Area.
If one does the maths it is not clear how this scheme will help tenants pay their and/or provide security of tenure.
The cruel laws of unintended consequences always affect the poorest the hardest.
Comment on: SHPS duo told to ‘take a stand’
With secure index - linked pension schemes rapidly becoming a thing of the past this is hardly the time to be seeking to capture the high moral ground.
It may go down well at conference ---it will not go down well with the remainiing 99.99% of the SHPS membership ---who will put up and shut up.
And who can blame them . Witness the current state of the former UK Coal Pension Scheme.
Comment on: Migrant myths
Yet even more regulation.
Many landlords fail to see why they should do the governments job for them. So, they do not house foreign migrants---who needs the extra hassle ?
Discrimination ? ? Hardly ---you can only lets one proerty to one tenant.By the time you have written to the Border Agency seeking confirmation of right of residence---and received a reply , the property is let anyway.
Classic case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater---unless, course, this is the intended pupose of this regulation.
