I am a children's author and I am concerned for aged people living in sheltered housing run by some Housing Associations who seem to be investing in their private housing companies and neglecting the social housing side of their business. Lives are being put at risk with older people having to use baths that are a real health hazard . Many baths have red rust in bedded inside the baths, some flats have had excreta coming up into the hand basins or toilet from the toilets being flushed in other flats. Wall insulation none, told gap between walls is too small???. Many have to wear heavy coats all day in the winter indoors to keep warm because of the antiquated heating supply. Electric its a wonder no one has been killed with many unchecked dangerous installations. Outside tap to water their flowers can't have one. so aged or disabled residents have to carry buckets full of water down stair cases. Communal doors so heavy to open not disabled friendly many residents have real illnesses an
Comment on: Landlords clear up after heavy weekend rain
I hope Hanover are not affected, residents will have to wait decades for someone to do something.
Lord Richard Best should put his own house in order first before he embarks on another one of his dubious ploys from the House of Lords. To me he's a control freak. repairs, where has all the rent money taken over £100 million pound gone to, they claim they can't afford to do housing repairs, private housing side housing would you say. his housing association are a disgrace, but they get away with it all the time. and Tenants suffer because there is no one to stand up for them
Comment on: Sustainable Housing Awards shortlist unveiled
I just hope Hanover are not on the list, being a tenant of theirs I can tell you they are a disgrace as a social landlord. Good in the private sector with 5 star guest houses is this where the money goes, because there is no money left year in year out for upgrades or repairs for us in social sheltered housing. anything need doing costing over £50 there is a major enquiry first and that takes months even years for the repair to be done, if they agree.
Kitty Ussher, former treasury minister has got something wrong here or has been miss-lead by the social housing propaganda . Private Landlords should be made to bring their property up to the decent home standard, I agree with to a certain degree, most are in a good state anyway, but so should social landlords as well. Many haven't, she goes on to say, Private landlords should hand over long-term management of their property to a social letting agency, tenants would be worse off many social housing associations don't upgrade their 1960s properties as we are led to believe and tenants go for years with baths not fit for purpose, bad antiquated heating, no wall insulation, dangerous electrics I could go on and on, how do I know this, because I'm an unfortunate tenant of social housing, with a company that pays more interest its its private dealings. When I found out this social housing company was advertising its new 5 star guest house and we have a no bath we can use for over 2 years now and heating that is a disgrace ask for a major repair you wait for ever. So private landlords going on this showing get 5 stars and social shelters housing get none, that's the real true you have just read about our wonderful social landlords.
Comment on: Leading the way
I wish people would get really I read a lot of silly blogs not reality what's really going on Housing association's are the biggest abuser of our land.
cut any tree down that's in the way, insulation none on this whole estate.

Draft proofing none existent. upgrades none 40 years, rust inside baths common thing through age not replaced. electrics no RCB, ie DANGEROUS and housing associations have all the answers to housing yes from the 1950s oh and this one is a sheltered social housing, so you would think they would deal with it a lot quicker but NO! to interested in there private company finances

I live in shelterd housing and its a life of hell. we have a Rottweiler dog housed with two old people in a one bed no garden first floor flat next door to us 5 feet away, and its made our life hell. Kepts us awake night day with them taking the big dog down the staircase banging doors. The Housing assosiation are a law unto themselves do what they like to you. Even told us to move out if we don't like it. shame on them. The dog comes first.
There is over crowding in Socail shelterd housing Hanover allows any type of dog to live inside their peroperties, so they let a one bedroom smal flat with two people occuping who have a large rottweiler dog as well, this is over crowding and unfair on the dog and other residents. No garden either.
its called a lack of commonsence
