For the sake of clarity, what CL is trying to say, the VSC of £15 is not an award to the tenant(s). it is a standard charge to all those found guilty of any non custodial sentence. Just a red herring in this case.

Affordable Housing in all its gusies where it attracts HCA funding, has to meet the required space standards, which are quite good. Not quite Parker Morris but still a world away from the private sale standards.
The issue here is what people are prepared to accept and buy. Developing is a demand lead industry, if poeple refused to buy the shoe boxes that are on sale then the developers would be left with no option that to build properties that people will buy.
*If I buy a flat with no storage, I can not complain when the vacum I later buy has no where to live.
My personal views are that all housing including private sale housing should have to meet the minimum standards for design, quality, space and sustainablility that affordable housing has to meet, including Lifetime Homes. However as the post above comments this will all cost money which will add to the cost od the end product.
Comment on: Council approves 2,000 home development
It would be good to see what the Councils standard affordable housing requirement is via S106. I believe the usual is around the 30% mark with London assuming a 50% level.
If this is the case it would be interesting to know how Ballymore's managed to negotiate their requirment down from 991 affordable homes under the Mayor's 50% requirement, or even from 595 being the average LA requirement of 30%. We should note that affordable includes 'social' rent, affordable rent and various forms of shared ownership.
I am sure the LA is getting its due level out of the S106 in other areas, but surely affordable housing (not affordable rent) should be given the highest priority.
