Comment on: Right to buy letter under fire for ‘irresponsibility’
Mr Dixon is correct. The Labour party rejected RTB in the Mid 70s after initially being keen on it. Callaghan 0 Thatcher - still counting.

Comment on: Right to buy letter under fire for ‘irresponsibility’
Tenants taking up the right to buy need to be advised that they are also buying the obligation to keep the property jn good repair. This is a big issue in leasehold properties when the freeholder is the one that decides on the level of repairs and when they should be carried out. The RTB is much maligned, but I can see little wrong with building a house for a few thousand pounds in 1930 (or later), getting 80 (or less) years rent from it, then sell it (and the obligation to keep it in good repair) for many thousands of pounds. A good business model. Accepted that selling a property for less than it cost you to build just shouldn't happen.

Comment on: Wrong move
If tenants are moved away from their family, are they being denied, "the right to private and family life"?

Comment on: Cuts threaten ability to tackle rogue landlords
Did Environmental Health Officers do a lot of prosecuting before the cuts? Not likely. There is plenty of legislation that EHOs can use to improve conditions in private housing. Local Authorities can charge the rougue landlords for taking action. EHOs dont use it.
