As a solar thermal supplier we find that large scale street-scale retrofit can be quite modest in cost, and a number of our clients use their own in hours maintenance team, whom we have trained, to install which is great for their jobs.

This looks like better value than the free PV schemes - if you buy in bulk.

Tom's comments on scope are thought provoking. With the help of Bath University we had a go at doing a renewable energy life cycle (including energy and indirectly carbon) analysis of our solar heating technology in comparison with micro wind and PV. The results were interesting. Results for energy payback were: microwind can take for ever - or as little as a fee months depending on where you site it. PV takes a bit over 5 years. Solar thermal (with a PV pump rather than a mains leccy supply) takes 2 years. More, including the repoprt's name is here. http://www.solartwin.com/solartwin-features/technical/solartwin-twice-as-green-claims-validated-by-bath-university
