Comment on: Council confirms decision to take ALMO in house
Oh dear Michael, so many distortions, so little time.
Let's just take the easist one to disprove:
The Islington report that you refer to clearly states (paragraphs 4.34 and 4.35) the number of signatories to two separate petitions calling for the ALMO to be disbanded (283 + 1,655 if anyone is interested). I've just read it on their website - perhaps you failed to read that far?
Unsurprisingly, I can find no reference to Sean McLaughin's pension in the report, still less to the wholly fictional assertion that it is worth "million plus". Perhaps you have more detailed information as to his pension arrangements? Please share them with us, otherwise try to keep your fantasies to yourself.
PS, I'm not Sean McLaughlin by the way, though in the interests of transparency I did meet him at a parents evening at my daughter's school about ten years ago; nice chap (in my opinion). -

Comment on: IDS attacks social housing role in 'damaging' culture
"38% of social tenants are well-off enough not to need Housing Benefit and over 800,000 tenants are in full-time work. Nearly 60% of social housing tenants are couples with children who do not claim housing benefit".
Not my words boys and girls, and certainly not IDS's but taken from CLG's Q&A paper published today to support David Cameron's right-to-buy comments.
Joined-up government? If I had a cat, it'd laugh. -

Comment on: Council accused of intimidation as leader begs government for help
I think the article makes it clear that the letter was released as the result of an FOI request, and not leaked.

No. It's a different government. In any case "stepping in" would involve unwinding zillions of calculations around how the new self-financing regime is going to work from April next year, so unless they have a rabbit already built into that particular hat, I fear that disappointment awaits.

Sorry to let the facts get in the way of your assertions once again, but Labour did not win in any of the Inner London boroughs currently discussing "super-borough" status (Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, or Hammersmith & Fulham). Nor do they form the adminstration in the (Inner) London Borough of Wandsworth. But hey, facts are merely inconveniences, aren't they...
Nice attempt to divert attention away from the point of the 0.30 post by invoking Livingstone, though, but 0/10 for relevance.

Posted in: Service Charges and Whats Eligable For HB - your experience???
Hmm, if the charge is "not connected with the provision of adequate accommodation" then logically it should not fall within the ring-fenced HRA, as it is not part of any landlord's service that the LA is obligated to provide. @ PSR is therefore right, and this charge belongs in the General Fund and should be borne by all the local council taxpayers, not just the tenants.
