Board Members sitting on a Housing Association - whom work for other Housing Associatio

What you've writte there appears to be very out of context and based on what there is your questio ca't be answered.

However, I kow of no rule that prevents staff from one organisation being a Board member at another...indeed I know of many cases where staff sit on Boards (not their own) in order to gain more knowledge of the strategic functions and hence further their own careers.

Certainly the knowledge that such people bring can be invaluable when challenging the Executive Team.....

I copied this from a Housing Association NHF Model Rules 2005 that Housing Association staff of one Housing Association cannot sit on the Board of another Housing Association Board that's how I readed it!

The NHF is a membership organisation like the CIH. They generate a lot of good practice, and make recomendations, but good practice is not the same as regulatory requirments. NHF rules will apply only to NHF members and NHF member organisations. If in doubt, contact the NHF and ask.

I don't know if the TSA makes any recommendations as to who can and can't sit on a board

I was prevented from applying to sit on a Board by my employer. This was on grounds of commerciality and not wanting to assist a potential competitor. This was an internal policy and was not a bar due to any regulatory factors.

In my experience of assisting these boards and indeed working as a board member,  employees of other housing associations have been board members. I can understand your employer preventing you from applying to work on the board of a "competitor housing association". That is obviously a contractual matter. However, I do not believe that you are prohibited from being on the board of a housing association simply because you are employed by another housing association.

It is a rule that I have seen in a housing association rules, the housing association being a subsidary of a larger HA.

But to answer Junior, it would depend on the constitution of the individual housing association.

Model rules are just that, a model to help organisations to get their governance right and to meet the minimum requirements of the law, and in using them organisations can change them to meet their own requirements.

There are a few things that would automatically stop someone from being a board member, being bankrupt or having a court order barring a person from running a business are two that come to mind.

    I have recently joined twitter. I was initially reluctant but my son was very enthusiastic saying it was better than Facebook because it was easier to use, wasn't restricted to your " friends" and the limit on characters keeps comments short and to the point.
