CEO appointed for new Welsh giant

A merged housing group, which will become the largest in Wales, has confirmed its new chief executive.

Seren Group and Gwalia will merge on 1 April to create a new 15,000-home organisation called Pobl Group.

Today, Seren announced its chief executive Amanda Davies will become chief executive of the newly-formed group. Michael Williams, currently chief executive of Gwalia, will retire after 35 years in his current role.

Seren has also announced that Professor Andrew Davies, former Welsh finance minister, will chair the organisation.

The move brings together Seren Group’s companies, including social landlord Charter Housing, older people’s housing specialist Derwen Cymru, housing and support arm Solas and lettings agency Serenliving, with Gwalia’s companies, which include social landlord Tai Gwalia and care and support business Gofal a Chymorth Gwalia.

The group plans to invest £100m in new homes over three years and undertake commercial activity including providing student accommodation.

The merger, which has been given the go-ahead by the Welsh government, is still subject to approval by the Financial Conduct Authority.
