Builder appointed for £23m extra care development
Chevin Housing Association has appointed Willmott Dixon to a £23 million contract to build 200 extra care apartments.
The 8,000-home landlord, which is part of the Together Housing Group, will develop and run the apartments for Derbyshire County Council in Chesterfield, Alfreton and Clay Cross.
Planning permission has already been granted for 55 units in Chesterfield, and decisions are expected shortly on 52 homes in Alfreton and 90 in Clay Cross.
Peter Owen, managing director of Willmott Dixon’s midlands office, said: ‘These schemes will really make a difference to the provision of state-of-the-art and affordable housing in Derbyshire, providing highly specialised, quality living space with 24/7 on site care where needed for older people across the county.’
Work is expected to start on the first scheme in November with all three completed by the end of 2014.
