Comment on: Quarter of Tory MPs are landlords, says research
What an excellent piece, vested interest to not have a Rent Cap in London. Don't suppose you can find out how many of these have Housing Benefit claimants renting them? It is one rule for the rich in this 'broken society' and one rule for the poor! So much for all in this together? We need a workable & fully funded housing policy now, which caters for all those in need from first time buyers and real low cost affordable housing that doesn't depend on housing benefit top ups.
Comment on: Tories pledge right to buy campaign
A right to buy can only be exercised if you have the means to raise a mortgage or have the funds to buy! It's not just about information Pickles? I have examples in tower blocks where enquiries have been made about RTB only to be hit with a massive service charges on projected spending over the next 5 years, inflated prices and the inability to obtain a mortgage on these types of properties. Bring back the Tenants Incentive Scheme as a way of keeping social housing for those who need it and enabling those who can and choose to buy a viable option and a real foothold onto the housing ladder.
Did they learn nothing from the Poll Tax? This will disproportionally affect lone parents at a time when other benefit cuts and increased costs are being applied. Time for a new 'Can't Pay - Won't Pay' campaign to hit the streets if this proposal gets all party backing.
Comment on: Lodger rules to ease impact of bedroom tax
I thought someone had turned the clocks back and it was an 'April Fool'
Another example of making policy on the hoof with no clear vision or purpose. Just climb down and get rid of the bedroom tax. The issue is unregulated rents, mainly in the private sector, the new so called 'affordable rent' or 80% market rent in the social sector coupled with a lack of real affordable housing being built!!
Would love to see the 'fag packet' they worked this one out on!
Comment on: Richmond Council agrees £150,000 downsizing pot
Excellent idea, let's see more Councils and RSL's adopting this process. Link this into an pro-active mutual exchange programme from housing staff and we should see more properties become available.
Carole Donnelly has not added any discussions yet.
I think this a good idea, I would like to establish a local tenant voice and then a regional tenant voice, currently working with a number of tenants across Coventry. I have asked the TSA if any funding would be available this year, but looks like most things are on hold until new staff in place and the Tenant Voice is set up this summer. If anyone would like to help in the West Midlands I would like to hear from you. What affects one RSL affects us all.
Any ideas on funding greatly received and I do like a challenge!
