Rising Stars: the untold story
Things are really hotting up for housing’s five Rising Stars finalists.

No regrets
In tomorrow’s Inside Housing we will take you on a ride through the highs and lows (and yes, there have been some highs…) of 2010 in our annual review of the year. In case you can’t wait that long, the editorial team has come up with their most memorable moments from the last months. Let us know your favourite – and feel free to add your own.

Coffee and a chat
A chance meeting with Homeless Link boss Jenny Edwards last week (during which I managed, inadvertently, to drink her entire cup of coffee though that’s another story) produced an interesting idea.

Grilling the president
Thanks to everyone who has commented on this blog or emailed me with a question for Paddy Gray.

Are you a member of the CIH?
Even if you’re not, you’ve probably heard that the institute is planning a major shakeup of the way it is run.

Comment on: Pickles plans increased eviction powers
Dirk - To be fair, the government has been considering this for some time. Shapps first announced the plans in January, and then, with what turned out to be uncanny timing, reannounced it last week: http://bit.ly/oCfQvB

Comment on: Final three chosen in Rising Stars contest
This is how the CIH says it counted the votes:
'We took each of the three voting mechanisms (online, voting slips, interactive session voting), calculated the percentage of the total number of votes each candidate had from each of the mechanisms and added these together. The top 3 had the highest 3 percentages of the overall vote. Each of the mechanisms was equally weighted.'
Online votes were cast via www.insidehousing.co.uk and www.cih.org. -

Comment on: Rising Stars: the untold story
I stand corrected! And nothing wrong with Shakey - busted some of my earliest dance moves (round the living room with my dad) to Green Door and This Ole House...

RSLs buying developers
Should housing associations be allowed to buy up struggling developers? Surely this is a recipe for disaster?

OK, so housing appears to be a sector of patriots (although assuming many of the Scots, Northern Irish and Welsh among you aren't going to be supporting England...). In which case, Inside Housing is keen to hear from housing's keenest England supporters. Are you mad for the boys in white and red? What will you be doing to support them in the World Cup? Either post your No 1 England Fan credentials here, or email caroline.thorpe@insidehousing.co.uk .

Whatever the merits or otherwise of the idea, perhaps Darling's announcement backs the government into a corner: if it doesn't go ahead with the 'holiday', won't people simply have another reason to postpone buying in anticipation of a deferral?

I was talking about the associations understood to be planning on buying up 'floundering developers', reported on the front page of last week's IH. Some associations are already having problems with business plans heavily dependent on market and shared ownership sales. How would acquiring private companies loaded with debt help, however much of a bargain it might seem?
