Comment on: Clegg defends benefit cap ahead of Lords debate
This policy is fundamentally flawed.
No wonder anyone with a shred of decency opposes it. Without doubt our most vulnerable in society are suffering. I am working with local community groups and we are all really worried about the impact cuts is having not only on direct benefit recipients but the organisations they would have turned to in the past for help.
The basic argument being used is that people working are getting less money than some people on benefits - TRUE
Reason - because people on benefits get too much? Too much fraud?
People working are being paid too little? TRUE
We don't need people receiving benefits to get LESS, we need people working to be paid a decent LIVING WAGE and we need to stop the benefit system subsidising poor business practises.
Two WRONGS do not make a RIGHT!
Where businesses can prove they need help to pay a living wage to survive we should aim resources at them - not have sweeping benefits that prop up high profit minimum wage paying businesses that we can ill afford.
