Capital's devolving agenda aids locals

Local people are best placed to judge what size and style of housing is needed in their neighbourhoods. Greater flexibility over local budgets will make it easier to deliver family homes where needed, or flats in areas where they are more appropriate.
It’s good to see the mayor enhancing his localist credentials by devolving power to communities. It will be a considerable improvement on the previous government’s system, from which local authorities were excluded as both housing targets and budgets were signed-off by ministers in Whitehall following recommendations by the mayor.
Delivering all the homes that the capital needs will still be challenging, but Mr Johnson has put in place solid foundations on which communities across London can build.
