Government funding to unlock 38,000 homes

The government has shortlisted 14 sites that will between them deliver 38,000 homes for a share of a £474 million fund.

The allocations come from the Local Infrastructure Fund, which supports infrastructure and housing developments in the government’s enterprise zones, and large-scale housing developments.

The announcement of the 14 sites builds on previous allocations from the fund, which have been designed to unlock large-scale housing projects. The four previous allocations should deliver a total of 42,000 homes.

The funding is available as equity investments or loans, and is expected to be fully recoverable.

Housing minister Mark Prisk said: ‘Our support through the Local Infrastructure Fund will help deliver the homes this country needs, create thousands of jobs and inject millions of pounds of investment into local economies.’

The Homes and Communities Agency will now begin due diligence work before the funding allocations are confirmed.

HCA chief executive Andy Rose said: ‘There is work to be done to ensure these bids deliver value for money for the taxpayer and fit with local priorities, but I am looking forward to getting out on site and seeing progress on successful bids in the months ahead.’
