Pickles approves controversial twin-tower scheme
Controversial plans for two high-rise towers have been approved by Eric Pickles.
The secretary of state for communities and local government has given permission for the Vauxhall Cross scheme in the Vauxhall Nine Elms area of Lambeth.
The decision followed a public inquiry after landowner Westover Investment appealed against Lambeth Council’s failure to decide on a planning application.
The tower blocks scheme will include 291 apartments of which 58 will be affordable.
Michael Squire, a partner at architects Squire and Partners, who designed the scheme, said: ‘The scheme will transform and reinvigorate the area, opening up the confusing transport interchange and providing an important connection between the historic centre of Vauxhall, the river and the emerging opportunity area.’
