Disappointing lack of middle managers
Small and medium-sized housing associations are struggling to find suitable candidates for chief executive posts, a consultancy has warned.
Sue Manning, director of human resources at Tribal Consulting, said one of the big problems was that organisations were failing to train up middle management properly.
‘It’s letting them down as a sector – it’s disappointing. They don’t realise the real value of people – people can be developed, but what are they doing to push them on? Why should a £100,000 a year job be difficult to fill? It’s ridiculous.’
Many middle managers who apply for top jobs are unable to prove their ability, she said.
