Efficiency savings first, says Hill
Extra investment to improve public places through the new liveability fund will have to be coupled with efficiency savings, according to housing minister Keith Hill.Speaking at the Local Government Association conference on local environmental quality, he said investment came second to efficiency in improving the environment for communities.‘We're putting in place the foundations for delivering the best sorts of public places that we all want to see. We recognise that throwing more money at these problems is not the only answer. Sometimes what is needed is a different approach to make the services more efficient and effective on the ground,' he saidHe also indicated that designing out crime would be an important aspect of future planning. ‘Good design can help reduce crime and our fear of it,' he said.
