Comment on: Families to be pushed into private rented sector
a small minority of landlords aren't looking for maximum profit, eh farah? the rest are lovely philanthropists who barely break even so that awful tenants are given the cheapest possible places to live. nonsense. the vast majority of landlords, in london at least, are rinsing out the economic system the best they can, raising rents at every opportunity, and generally creating a sense of insecurity that ensures that the experience of being a private tenant is one of insecurity, exploitation, and substandard accomodation. supported housing keyworkers for vulnerable people? jesus, i haven;t met a landlord yet in my fifteen years of renting who would let to someone who admitted to mental health problems or a criminal record, or would eve accept HB if their tenant lost their job. if landlords want to be taken serious as anything other than profiteering scumbags they really need to start doing some work.
Comment on: Government to set up 'beds in sheds' task force
i love the anti-immigrant spin there. the idea that poor immigrants are trapped in sheds by evil landlords and are just waiting for the police to send them home. nonsense. yes, beds in sheds are a problem, for many reasons. but don't pretend that the problem can be solved by kicking out a load of foreigns.
Comment on: Think tank calls for London welfare changes
it's interesting that they call for the mayor to be in charge of housing matters. clearly as long as the mayor is boris this is a bad idea. but can any other tory win in london? i am unconvinced, and considering that tory hq is likely to have him lined up as the next PM perhaps this is a good idea...
Comment on: Research questions prime minister's rent claim
i wish i got double on benefits. my benefits give me 28 quid a week a to live on after rent. where do i have to go to double my money?
I love the way that HAs get the blame by government for only doing what they are required to do. Could it be that this is part of the ongoing neolib agenda to discredit social housing? Or are the ministers in question so ignorant, desperate, and arrogant that they are unable to see how things are?
