Experts to study Welsh planning system
The Welsh Assembly Government has set up a team of experts to investigate how the planning system can be made to work more quickly.
The new group will include representatives from the CBI, Federation of Small Businesses, Home Builders Federation in Wales, Royal Town Planning Institute in Wales, Advisory Panel on Standards for the Planning Inspectorate, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Wales.
It will be led by Michael Sant, the former director of planning services to the defunct Land Authority for Wales.
Stuart Vendy, partner within the national planning team of chartered surveyors, Gerald Eve LLP, said: ‘Previous attempts at speeding up the decision making process in Wales have come down to a balancing act between speed and quality. These aims are not mutually exclusive however and focusing on the culture within planning departments is just as important as tweaking process and procedure.’
