Hyde Group: Packington estate, London
“Wow!”
Freddie, 11, budding architect and son of judge Steve Douglas
A development with the ‘wow’ factor, this eight-year, six-phase programme is transforming a community by Regents Canal. The estate regeneration is being delivered with residents in occupation, with 538 structurally defective flats being replaced with 791 mixed-tenure houses and flats. Other features include a youth centre, an adventure playground, a community centre, a dental surgery and a children’s centre, which houses the Packington Families Project, a multi-agency partnership tailoring support and advice to families on parenting, domestic violence, health, debt, benefits and improving school attendance. The overall development attracted £33 million gap funding from the Communities and Local Government department.
