Charities call for better support

A coalition of four charities has called for the next government to do more to help people with multiple needs, such as homelessness and mental health problems.

Making Every Adult Matter has launched a four-point manifesto calling for a green paper on multiple needs and exclusions to make sure different council departments, charities and local agencies, work together to do more to tackle the problem.

MEAM is made up of Homeless Link, Clinks, DrugScope, and Mind and supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Oliver Hilbery, project director at MEAM, said: ‘In every local area, councils, services and the police can list individuals who face multiple needs and exclusions by name. But differing priorities and a lack of co-ordination can mean that they are passed from service to service, without ever getting the overall help that they need.’

The manifesto also calls on the next government to track the progress of individuals on a national basis and share knowledge about what works.
