Comment on: DCH protests against welfare reforms
The tories said before the election that they would not
interfere with council tenants , and would not diminish
security of tenure. They did not win the election outright
but have been hoisted up into power by the lib dems,
and together the con dems have been targeting and
damaging council tenants non stop. They have imposed
£18 billion of benefit cuts onto the poorest communities in the
country , including severe attacks on the public's vital
housing benefit entitlements, in which they want 670,000
council tenants to find a shortfall of £ 1 billion p.a because
they are considered to have extra space in their existing homes !
The con dems have also introduced 80% market rents ,
and insecure short term tenancies ,as well as telling councils
to push up their rents by 8 % p.a.
The con dems also want local councils to pay off around
£30 billion of old debts that are attached to these housing depts !
All in all , its proving to be a collassally bad time for council tenants. -
Comment on: ALMO offers tenants £29k to buy homes
The tories said before the election that they would offer
council tenants a grant to give up their council home
and to use these funds to buy their own home directly , thereby
releasing a useful empty home to assist those on the waiting list.
This scheme was to be called a foot on the ladder , but what has
happened to it since the election , has it been dropped ?
Previously ,local councils also use to offer their tenants a
grant to "vacate" their council home and to then become a
private home owner ; but it seems they have mostly abandoned
such a useful policy , as they do not have a lot of funds to use. -

Comment on: £25bn further welfare cuts? 'Froth'
The tories did not win the general election outright , but instead
they have been lifted up into power by the lib dems,
and now they are together in imposing £ 18 billion of
benefit cuts onto the poorest people in the country ,
including targeting the poorest council tenants with a £ 1 Billion p.a
bedroom tax penalty for having extra space in their existing home .
Having pushed these cuts through parliament in March 2012,
they are now immediatley promoting the idea of even further cuts
before the full impact of these £18 billion cuts take effect !!!!!
The tories are also promoting the aim of cutting the welfare bill in the future by £60 Billion pa...........by pushing the retirement age
upto 67 , which could affect around 8 million people.
The public are entitled to receive benefits based on Social Security
Leglislation that has been successfully passed by Parliaments
over the past 60 years, but the con dems shamefully think
they can just grab power and cut these entitlements to pieces. -

The tories are punishing council tenants TWICE OVER for having extra space in their home, firstly by cutting housing benefits by £490 million, and then for exactly the same reason they are cutting council tax benefits by £500 million p.a , meaning these tenants are facing a shortfall of £ 1Billion p.a. , which they will have to find themselves.Previously these people spent many years on a waiting list to become tenants , through their local council assessing their needs and allocating them a suitable home.If many years later their family circumstances have changed then its not their fault that their home is a different size. They may not now be able to find an empty /smaller /cheaper home nearby.

The tories were supposed to be helping council tenants
to become home owners by giving them a grant to move
out of their council home and buy their own home
thereby creating a useful empty home ......
but where is this policy now .......has it been dropped.
