Comment on: Occupy protestors in bid to shape housing policy
how come the Occupy movement have become another presure group on housing. Didn't it start as a protest about Banks and Banking?
Have they given up on that?
At least the Occupy movement did somthing useful and practical in the USA. It organised a 'changeover day' and got 600,000 americans to change their bank accounts from the Casino Capitalist banks to co-operative Credit Unions or Mutuals.
In this country some of the credit unions dont have the facilities to run current accounts but the Co-operative Bank, its internet Subsidary Smile, and Brittania Building Soc. all have the full range of options and have been operating as a democratically owned ethical Co-operative for over 100 years. time for a lot of people to put their money where mouths are and switch to the Co-operative option.
If it is successful in buying 600 Lloyds bank branches The co-operative financial group will conduct 8% of the UK banking business.
I've been a customer for more than 50 years and had no problems, Ive dealt with the rest and there is no comparison, (even if the call centres do have a lancashire accent) -
Comment on: Government to push through welfare reforms
hi Omega 3,
"the UK benefit payments are meagre by any standard"
how can write such absolute rubbish. If that is so why are there so many hundreds of millions who would give anything, literaly anything, to get here and get on the benefits gravy train.
why do those who have got here fight tooth and nail to stay, and lie about their reasons, and make rich the lawyers and others who make rich pickings out of the benefits scandel.
As one said to me "you british are so stupid, you actually believe all the lies and sob stories told to you. most times we just follow the script provided by our lawyers or advisers" In exchange for the fat fees they charge or payday interest rate, loans they arrange for us. -
Comment on: Council plans energy co-op to tackle fuel poverty
can someone tell Lutfur Rahman of tower hamlets to go to the web site:
www.Cooperativeenergy.coop
A large regional Retail co-op has already established a energy buying Co-op and is recruiting across the UK. As its a co-op, its green, ethical and competitive. (the first supplier to reduce prices this winter But we dont see that in the papers.)
Its been going for nearly a year, it has been very favourably received.
but is still small.
But because its part of a large regional Co-op it has the capital to do what Tower Hamlets might have problems with, at this point in time, which is buy power up front which is very expensive. most of the other Retail Co-ops are acting as its agents. But the financial and market constraints mean it can only grow slowly.
Tower Hamlets would be better persuading its people to insulate their lofts and walls, that would reduce their bills by nearly 40% and contact the co-op to get their suppies. -
Comment on: Benefit fines raise eviction fears
Excuse me, but if you dont do anything that incurs a fine, you will have a problem.
Secondly the benefits being paid to many people are very generous so they can easily pay any fines due.
I dont think the 160,000 people who are in social housing and own a second home, will have anyproblem!!!
Fines should be paid in full before you leave custody. like in other countries. -
