Normally when a user publishes any material they waive any and all moral rights in such text, and the intellectual property in all design, text, graphics and other material passes to the owners of the website.

This is all very depressing. Despite repeated assurances that material from the old site is about to be put up or returned nothing happens and no further information is forthcoming. Has Tom given up on this?

I sent the material you requested to you last month, if you haven't received it email me direct so that I know where to send it. It isn't really practical to put up full debates from the old site, but if there are any topics that people would like restarted let me know and I'll add a few of the most recent posts. I'll pick up messages here, or email tom.lloyd@insidehousing.co.uk

Tom, thanks for the material! It arrived after we sorted out the old email.

You say it is not really practical to put up full debates from the old site. Yes, and I think that is a limitation of the new site. The old site allowed for longer contributions. These look very strung out on this new format.

The old site provided information about the number of readers for each topic which doesn't seem to be available now, although I notice it is shown on the front page for the latest postings.

The old site also had a 'miscellaneous' forum which allowed people to put up topics they felt didn't fit one of the headings provided.

I note you say you are ready to restart some old topics. Although the material I wrote for the old site is difficult to put up again I hope to restart a discussion about the Olympics in due course.

Just a quick question ..... but do users really miss old forum threads and debates in terms of a need to access the data or is it more to do with the comfort of knowing its close at hand, even if they will never again access or read it - rather like the things we keep in the loft for years but get very angry if someone suggests we bin it! I know what Tom means when he says its not practical to move old threads over, we have spent many hours doing the same thing in the past on our sites, but I also understand that when you have participated in a debate, it can be disheartening to see your ideas and opinions thrown away. Nice site Tom - from a new member.

All it was needed was to have archived the old websites forums - closed them and put a weblink to it just as a reading/consultative option. I have seen this on many websites done without any problems whatsoever....

It's certainly having the desired effect on my use of the site. Normally i take a quick look when i've got a few mins to spare but now I'm not bothering.

Is it coincidence that the number of 'one hit' posters has reduced if not ceased - perhaps the groupies are too busy fighting seats!

Could comment boxes be made any larger, so that eye-scan reviewing is simpler (essential for rushed numbskulls who can't spell) or failing that a preview option prior to posting to assist sending in those posts with glaring errors, or even missing parts?
