'Armed man' in ALMO tower block siege
A tower block has been cordoned off by police after a man was reported to be holed up in a flat pointing a gun out of a window.
Armed police are on site at Granville Point, Granville Road, Cricklewood, where a man, believed to be in his 50s, was in a 14th floor flat. Police said he was ‘possibly in possession of a firearm’.
Officers were called to the block just before midday today (Tuesday).
Landlords Barnet Homes, the arms-length management organisation of Barnet Council, said it had staff on site to assist police and residents but that the block – which is a mixture of tenants and leaseholders - had not been evacuated.
A spokesperson said: ‘We are offering any support we can to police.’
Police said they were currently trying to make contact with the man and to bring the incident to a successful conclusion.
