They must be out of their tiny minds.....

The government today announced that it is changing its symbol for Parliament to a CONDOM, because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance.... A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed!Damn, it just doesn't get more accurate than that!...now thats what I think of this screw-ball idea

Sun Flower..play it cool my friend....do not name the HA here, but there is nothing stopping you from giving the full story on these pages.Call the HA anything but its real name eg "Crap Heap Housing Association Ltd"..we will know what you mean, save yourself and Inside Housing from a libel case..

Thank you Chris...I will die a thorn in the backside of any oppressor of those who cant defend themselves...I hear all that you say my friend, but this bloody minded old soldier has a axe to grind with HA's and my notice of a 8% rent rise is the last straw.Under the Freedom of Information Act I have found out they paid £8k for the roof over my head back in 2002...this they paid for 6200 council homes, regardless of size and number of bedrooms...£55 million with a loan from RBS, but the real price they should have paid to the council and the tax payers of my Shire county was over ONE BILLION POUNDS(market price in 2002)..The vast amount of the population are completely unaware of this appalling daylight robbery committed by both the council and the HA...but I need just one more bit of the jig saw to complete the picture..the price they will ask for my right to buy this bungalow(and yes, I have that right still, I was offered it many years ago)

Thanks for the last two replies, but regardless of regional differences in rent and the Shylock merchants out there who will rip one off. I need a professional answer to my question with the greatest of respects....

We would love to hear from the real professionals on this subject...are there any companies who undertake this sort of under taking...seems there is a golden plumb ready for the picking out there.....

Hi Simon...It seems a win,win opportunity for some budding eagle eyed entrepreneur housing wizard to make a killing...They fork out a few grand to acquire the deeds of a property that will increase with value...the gamble they take is how long we will live?...could be a week after we sign up for the deal or ten years and at 75 the odds are in their favour of a quick return of their investment....

My HA rent has increased by over 8% and I am now paying over £400 a month in rent for a two bed roomed bungalow.I have lived here for 17 years and have the right to buy my home.Is there a way that at my age(75) of selling my right to buy option to an organisation who will purchase the property on my behalf and with a written and law abiding agreement let me live here rent free and it becomes theirs when I pop my clogs....

Tents could make a come back...you could pitch a tent on the lawns you used to cut at minimal cost, until some obnoxious prat from Israel tries to tax the number of sleeping bags in a tent...

Tricky, I find your negativity truly amazing and with the greatest of respect may I suggest you move on and find another less stressful job, you have been asked by F451 and me to offer your own suggestions for building stronger communities, all you can do is deride all that we say..please say what you would do..

Run this one past your eyes Tricky..undo all the damage the PC brigade has done to our nation and our children...bring back the right to chastise our kids, bring back the the days when a copper could clip a young offender around the ears..bring back National Service..give back power for teachers to administer punishment for abusive behavior...and by your reply to my last post you have forgotten what Britain was like before the PC brigade ruined our kids...you see today!

"So to build "a future for disenfranchised kids of Britain" - we lock them in Borstals?  I assume we catch them by "Orwellian" CCTV cameras and neighbours reporting them?"

I agree, vandalism is unacceptable and those responsible should be brought to book...and when I say "brought to book" I mean given punishment we had our youth(mine) Borstal for boys and girls should be reinstated in Britain...harsh, military glasshouse regimes designed to straighten out the most wayward of vandals...but the PC brigade would have a fit..

Bye the Gods of Uranus...lets call it a day with this  tit for tat talk and talk about kids..and building stronger communities OK?..

"On a daily basis I see the damage done to brand new housing developments from fag ends and litter to outright vandalism.  How do you suggest that these people can be helped?"...Can I be honest here and say this."Respect is a two way human trait,we can't just push our values and principles down their throats and expect instant compliance with our rules, life is not as easy as that, ask them for their views and what THEY would like to see in our society, meet them half way, without demands...and "these people" sounds very condescending...our fellow citizens would sound better....

As a retired R&D Technician I can say that there are strict guidelines on repairs of white goods, or anything electrical..the word "Competent Person" keeps popping up...but you have set off a train of thought in this old mans mind...in our town we have a re-cycling depot and you would be surprised by the number of old refurbishable bicycles that are chucked into skips...a little workshop and paint spraying equipment and we have a budding enterprise could be in the making...

Car washing by Eastern Europeans in my area is usually a carried out on a static site, as you say,its pretty well tied up by them..BUT..I bet my bucket and leather they are not mobile like us kids of old..we used our bicycles to take us every place in London and like a window cleaning round they(the kids) can build up their clientele(little acorns etc)..the push bike in London will play a major part in finding work in our big cities and towns my friends and asking some government department to fund the purchase of this mode of transport would be a good starting point..wot say you?

As a suggestion to get away from this pointless slanging match, may I suggest some ideas to get our kids back in work...As A kid I lived on my wits to put extra food into my belly(food rationing)..and we came up with many scams to achieve this goal. But it was always done as a group, or what you might call today a Cooperative. With a leather and buckets we would go to the posh parts of London and clean cars in places like Bishops Avenue and Portman Square..and the money rolled in(tax free) and we formed our own office cleaning co-op in the West End of London and this was in 1949...just imagine how you could undercut the professional cleaners of today...we chopped firewood in the winter months and set up window cleaning rounds...all CASH  jobs...and this was what we kids did to earn a crust...even sold horse manure to those who worked the allotments...

The truth can be painful my faceless one(anonymous),I find it so easy to criticize your outlook on our young...just like any troll that has come my way over the years, they bluster and rant over nothing, so please get back onto the subject in hand "Building stronger communities", don't down our young as feckless individuals cos you sound just like my drill sergeant on the drill square who tried and failed to break our sprites...so lets have some positive debate on building the community sprite...your ranting is not helpful..

You must excuse this grumpy old git of 75 who in his twilight years has seen his life cycle turn full circle..born in a depression and it looks like I will die in one. There is good in everyone, even these kids if you look hard enough my friends, please don't cast them into the waste bin of human detritus..turn some of your energy into fighting those who are pulling the rug from under your feet..protest..like I have done all of my life...write on Face book and Twitter..like I have done over the years and if your good at writing, then write like I do as a radical poet and writer on the pages of the Guardian and Independent blog sites...just type this onto Google and you will find me..The Poems of Radical Peter

I see no hope of building stronger communities with statements like this:   "but I really do believe that entitlement should be accrued, and unless one is a pensioner or has worked and contributed for 10 or 15 years then I don't think people should be entitled to anything at all!"

How on earth did you people get a job working with the young unemployed?...all you instill in them is a sense of complete hopelessness and despondency...Stop being negative and give some positive input..cos going round in circles means you will disappear up your own backsides..

Tricky...your uncaring attitude that derides all that has been said on this thread thus far  is as useful as a fart in a space suite!!...this article is about building stronger communities and you lumping and classifying our young folk as "barely literate" sours the conversation.Your attitude towards the young is indicative of all that's wrong in our society...you will find bad apples in all levels of society..including the level you move in..

"What about the state not forcing or inciting people with adverts to report their neighbours to the police, the council, to the DWP for all kinds of transgressions?... How can one built any community with everyone spying and reporting on everybody else?... The police, the council the DWP must use their own means for investigations and not use neighbours on neighbours as their easy way to do their jobs... You can forget about communities - there are whole estates where 70% of the residennts main occupations is reporting neighbours and keed diaries about them - and that's for their entire lives!"

This was from anonymous just now...these are the words of youth protest and concern...there is a complete lack of trust in this Orwellian 1984 society...his/her views echo the views of a great number of the adult population also and having lived in times of right wing oppression 1939/1945 I can understand the feelings that abound with the younger generation in Britain...Building stonger communities is going to be a hard slog when Big Brother is breathing down your neck...

I was born at the tail-end of the depression in 1937 in London and having lived through the second world war and the austerity years that followed, I can reflect on what a true community means to those who had lost everything, except the clothes they were dressed in.People in my days pulled together as one, we shared everything and gave everything we could to those who had nothing, but this sense of "oneness" of those days could never be repeated in today's society it pains me to say.Materialist envy must be overcome before you can build the foundations of a stronger community, a sense of equal worth must be fostered within peer groups. There again this could all be "pie in the sky" if this government contiues to pillage and plunder the poorest in society...

Take away the sense of real injustice the young feel today, even with a first class education they can't get a job and the blame for the theft and wholesale greed and corruption of the 1% who own 99% of the worlds wealth is being paid back by those who are innocent of the foul misdemeanours of corporate PIGS in our world...no amount of white-wash will change this statement

It pains me to say as some one who has done his National Service for this country I could cheerfully put some of the ultra right wing trolls I have seen on this thread on a army parade ground for a month or two and I guarantee I would add many more words to their vocabulary....in times like we live in now being right wing is harmful to your health...as Oswald Mosley  found out to his cost....

Does this mean that I can also ask my council for a copy of the transfer agreement....I have a FOI doc on what the HA paid for 6200 homes..but seeing the agreement would be the icing on the cake.
