Mr Leach will depart in the new year to become chief executive of charity Local Trust. According to its website Local Trust provides funding “to support people to make sustainable change, maximise impact and make the best use of scarce resources”.

He will be replaced at the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust (HACT) by deputy chief executive Andrew Van Doorn. Gavin Cansfield, chair of HACT, said: “Over the last five years Matt has overseen the transformation of HACT, turning it from a conventional charitable funder into an ideas factory for UK housing.

“HACT’s work on data, social value, health and digital transformation have broken new ground and its research and development work is widely respected and gaining growing attention across housing and beyond.”
