Mixed inspection for south east landlord
Audit Commission inspectors have delivered a mixed report on a 10,000-home social landlord.
Paradigm - which is also known as Chiltern Hundreds Charitable Housing Association - is praised for the way it involved its tenants, but criticised for its performance on repairs.
A short-notice inspection of Paradigm published today found the association has ‘strengths and weaknesses in balance’, and says services were not always consistent.
Julie Watts, Audit Commission lead housing inspector, said: ‘Paradigm is working closely with residents to try to improve services. It has successfully improved its gas servicing, and this is reducing risks to tenants.
‘It needs to do more with tenants to improve how the service demonstrates value for money; and it needs to ensure it provides all its services consistently.’
The report recommends that Paradigm works with tenants to improve value for money in its services, and develop a more flexible system for repairs and gas servicing.
David Smith, executive director of operations at Paradigm, said: ‘The inspection was a positive and constructive experience for Paradigm and the customers who were involved. We are pleased that the results overall confirmed we have no “weak” services and that our work with customers was found to be strong.’

I doubt very much the Audit Commission knows what is really going on - or they do not want to know - from a tenants perspective when you get a situation in HAs bragging they have 80% satisfaction, when there are tenants too ill or frail who cannot even complain.
And the healthy and strong residents who complain have to become mentally ill to get a complaint trhough the whole procedure andthey surely are not going to complain again.

A bit of an odd report as the Short Notice Inspection Report is similar to that for most average RSLs. Indeed, with every aspect in balance, except one area where postives outweigh negatives, it can be argued that this is above average. Even the quote chosen for the article is a positve. Is there an agenda here, or is news really that quite at the moment?
Was the real story that IH wanted to get onto was that the repairs service in this case is operated by Connaught through a partnering arrangement?
