The awards, which were hosted by comedian Rory Bremner, recognised the achievements of landlords in 13 categories, including new awards for new developer of the year, promoting homeownership and diversity and leadership.

Horton Housing, which provides support for vulnerable clients who are not a priority for statutory housing and social services, won the coveted landlord of the year award.

The judges said: “The finalists this year were incredibly diverse, representing some of the largest and smallest landlords in the sector, and between them meet a huge variety of different needs. The winner is achieving life-changing and humbling results on a shoestring. They are totally focused on their values and are helping clients who have slipped through the net elsewhere.”

Councils were well represented among the winners. Manchester City Council picked up the local authority of the year award and Eastbourne Borough Council won new developer of the year.

Other winners included Golding Homes, which won the repairs and maintenance category, Peabody, which won the award for tackling anti-social behaviour and Pickering & Ferens, which won the tenant involvement award.
