Comment on: Council rejects 'poor' inspection rating
Norwich City Council got a "poor" rating in January 2009 because leaseholders warned the Audit Commission what to look for. The problem is that councils have the ability to be selective about what the AC sees. Our council is due to be inspected again in February and we have already started to show the things we know. If tcitizens, tenants and leaseholders don't speak up or don't know how the system works, then the system prolongs bad cultures. This is what has happened in Norwich and we believe this is how Connaught managed to get Norwich as it's flagship account shortly before it died on its feet. Citizens get the council they deserve and it's time people spoke out.

Comment on: Minister confirms HRA will be scrapped
I shudder at the notion that my council can have more money at its disposal. For years it has viewed the HRA as its personal piggy bank to hide its failings and inefficiencies. I'm not sure how things will become more transparent.
What we need is for councils to become more accountable. If a council has incompetent councillors and incompetent officers, the public is not served and has no power to do anything at all.
Localisation of everything is great if you have competent, listening people in charge. Instead we are in serious danger of the "little Hitler" syndrome.
We need to hear more about accountability - what will replace the Audit Commission? -
Comment on: Landlords to fight Lovell debt demand
Norwich City Council leadership can reject calls for an independent inquiry all it likes. One way or another the truth will out. City Hall has proved many times over that it is incompetent and we have come to the end of the line. Tenants have paid through the nose for this council's very serious mistakes over the past few years. It is now time to 'fess up.

Comment on: Ed Miliband: ‘make social housing desirable for all’
Kass and Christopher Webb have it. Social housing is over-politicised. I am an elected representative (a leaseholder elected to represent the interests of 2,500 across the city) and my council has systematically excluded my organisation because we had the temerity to stick up for ourselves. Sadly the tenant representatives have not been allowed independence and those who represent are either shouted down or they "turn native". Social housing has become a ghetto in so many places and our council, at least, spends far too much time fending us off rather than listening to what we have to say. Those of us who offer our services should be allowed to take part, rather than excluded because they think they know what we will say.
Keep fighting these gross council landlords - councillors are elected - but so are we.
