Preventing Homelessness and Protecting Homeowners Conference 2010

In 2009/10, the courts in England and Wales made possession orders against over 130,000 tenants and a further 70,000-plus homeowners. These orders are now being enforced and during the current year tens of thousands of occupiers face the actual loss of their homes. While this has been happening, the Mortgage Rescue Scheme in England has never really got off the ground and the scheme in Wales is so oversubscribed that it has been suspended. This conference examines not only the latest measures that can be effectively used to prevent homelessness but also, specifically, the outcome of the UK Coalition Government's urgent review of schemes to assist mortgage borrowers in difficulties.
