Landlord to publish salaries and spending online
A housing association has pledged to voluntarily publish the salaries of senior level employees along with greater detail of its expenditure.
Viridian Housing has said that from 1 April this year it will publish details of all employee salaries over £50,000 and all expenses over £500.
Matthew Fox, Viridian chief executive, said: ‘The world is becoming more open and we are taking practical action to become even more transparent, honest and accountable.
‘It is becoming increasingly important for us, and our residents, to be very open about the money we spend.’
‘Around 80 per cent of our income is from residents’ rent and other charges, so we owe it to them to be clear about how their money is used.’
He said the information would be online and routinely updated so that tenants could see where their money was going.
The move comes in the wake of Grant Shapps, the housing minister, calling on housing associations to be more transparent.
Mr Shapps has previously said that ‘time is running out’ for landlords to open themselves to scrutiny as the government was looking at extending freedom of information requests to include housing associations.
