NIHE names chair and vice-chair
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive has announced its new chair and vice-chair, following the shock departure of Brian Rowntree in July.
Social development minister Nelson McCausland announced the appointment of Donald Hoodless as chair and Professor Peter Roberts as vice-chair to the board of the the UK’s largest social landlord today.
They will both be in post for five years, beginning on 5 November.
Mr Hoodless is a former chief executive of Circle 33 Housing Trust and Notting Hill Housing Trust, and former chair of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Skills for Care. He was also a board member on the now defunct Tenant Services Authority and before that a board member of the Housing Corporation.
Professor Roberts is the chair of First Ark group, and has held posts at the University of Ulster and the University of Leeds.
Mr McCausland said: ‘I welcome the appointment of Mr Hoodless and Professor Roberts at this time. I believe they both have demonstrated the necessary skills and experience to take the [NIHE] through a period of significant change, as I consider the future service delivery model to be put in place to ensure we have a sustainable housing system fit for the future.’
The minister is expected to announce a change in structure for the 90,000-home NIHE shortly after months of wrangling over its future.
Former chair Mr Rowntree resigned in July just days before Mr McCausland placed the landlord under government supervision ordering it to report to his department every two weeks under ‘special accountability measures’.
