Prisk replaced by junior minister

A spokesperson for the Communities and Local Government department has confirmed today that Kris Hopkins will replace Mark Prisk with the housing brief.

It was announced yesterday that Kris Hopkins was being promoted to a parliamentary under-secretary at the CLG as part of the reshuffle.

Although it has not been formally announced, it appears that the government has downgraded housing from having a full minister to a junior minister.

This comes a day after Labour upgraded housing as it announced its new shadow housing minister Emma Reynolds will attend the shadow cabinet.

Conservative MP for Keighley Kris Hopkins, 50, is a former Bradford Council leader after being elected to serve his local ward in 1998.

He became portfolio holder for social services and council housing, and during his time he oversaw the delivery of housing stock transfer in Bradford.
